If you’ve ever had a beer that tasted like chocolate, you may already know what cacao nibs can do to a beer.
Cacao nibs are crushed pieces of the cocoa bean. They have a beautiful chocolate smell and subtle brownie-like, nutty and roastey flavor.
When a beer is aged on cacao nibs, you get a rich and chocolatey flavor imparted in your beer like what’s found in our SXL Chocolate Porter.
Of course, that’s not the only way to add chocolate flavor to beer. Brewers often use cocoa powder, dark chocolate and a product called Choloca which is liquid cacao. The most famous usage of Choloca can be found in Oskar Blues “Death By Chocolate” which is easily one of my favorite chocolate porters (besides SXL Chocolate, of course).
So the next time you see “aged with cacao nibs” or “cacao nibs added to the secondary” you’ll most likely find yourself enjoying a rich and chocolatey beer like our SXL Chocolate Porter or “Death By Chocolate” from Oskar Blues.
